Industrialization in America did more good than harm because of the new technologies, better working conditions, and the improvement of American lifestyle. The industrialization was caused mainly from immigrants coming to America, and new railroads/machinery. New people came to America looking for opportunity and jobs while the railroad system made traveling throughout the nation a lot more efficient.

Industrialization in America did more good than harm because of the improved working conditions. Some unions believed that the new laws passed did not justify the horrible working conditions the workers had to endure;  that people in the triangle shirtwaist company had to burn down with their workers in order to put laws in place. From Triangle Factory Fire Movie, after the fire occurred, businesses had inspections for safety. Thirty new laws were made for safety, maximum hours and minimum wages. Work conditions go better and NYC set an example for the rest of the businesses throughout the country. If the fire did not occur, these working laws would not have been passed. The deaths did justify these new laws that were passed because it improved working conditions for all workers in the future and got us where we were today.

Another part of how we got where we, Americans, are today was the improvement of American Lifestyle. From the “Statistics on Industrial Growth” chart from 1870-1910, GNP per capita doubled from 1870 to 1910, the Infant Mortality rate went down from 170 to 117 (per 1,000), High school graduates percent went up 7% (2%-9%) and telephone usage went from 0- 82( per 1,000 people). The average american lifestyle improved during the industrial period. People were getting paid more for their work, more people were becoming educated and receiving diplomas, less infants were dying, and Americans were becoming more accustomed to technology like telephones. This all improved Americans standard lifestyle.

Americans standard lifestyle also improved because of new technologies being invented. In the document " Timeline of Selected Inventions by Thomas Alva Edison", it lists all of the inventions and years Thomas Edison created new technologies. For example some of the inventions he created are the storage battery, electric motor, phonograph, and printing telegraph. All of these inventions were improved and they became the basis of technology in which our modern technology came from. This improved the American lifestyle because it made simple tasks easier and more attainable to get more done. From the "Excerpt from a Life History by Harry Reece" document, Harry Reece, a young boy from a farm, states, " We lived on a farm, and even telephones were curiosities to myself and the country boys of my age. Electric lights were something to marvel at... the old Edison phonograph with its wax cylinder records and earphones was positively ghostly... and trolley cars, well they too were past understanding!" This quote shows how amazing these new inventions were to somebody who wasn’t accustomed to them. Farmers that had new technologies really benefited from them because new technologies made work for certain tasks easier and improved the standard American lifestyle.

It was also bad because it meant longer work hours for workers, and now they were able to work longer because electricity provided light so they could work through the night when it was dark out. For assembly lines it meant that the workers had to stand in one spot all day.
